The majority of people assume that Chiropractors are only “back doctors” or “neck doctors”, while this is not the case. Chiropractors treat several different types of pain in the body and help ensure your body is functioning at its highest potential. How does chiropractic care do this you might ask? Through manipulation of the spine and the effects that an adjustment has on your nervous system.

nervous-systemThe nervous system serves as an inner coordination tool that allows information to be transmitted from the brain to the rest of the body and sends signals to the body to create an appropriate response. Our body’s every move is determined by the nervous system including the way we experience touch, sound, sight, smell and taste along with the regulation of our organs. It is basically the control centre of our body.

With that said, it is important that we take care of our nervous system and what better way to do that than receiving chiropractic treatments! For those of you that do not know much about what a chiropractor does or the effects it has on the body, here is a bit of information about the history of chiropractic. It was founded in the 1800s by Daniel David Palmer and based around the fact that treatment had positive impacts on the body as a whole and more specifically, the nervous system. While much has changed since 1895 in the field of chiropractic, but the fundamentals remain the same.

When a chiropractic adjustment is performed, the treatment is crafted to remove any interference that’s occurring between the brain and its communication to the rest of the body. This is referred to as a subluxation. In other words, a misalignment within the spine that may be placing pressure on the spinal nerves causing the interference. This in turn if left untreated could lead to further illnesses.

Chiropractic care is not proven to cure diseases, however; long term studies show that manipulation of the spine can lead to positive effects on the body and nervous system.
