Happy Primavera all. I learned from one of my Italian patients that “Happy Primavera” means the first of spring. Here I thought it was a pasta!

As the nicer weather SLOWLY approaches us, one of the things that I would like to caution you about is the way you jump into spring cleanup. We all want to get out and get things done around the house or yard and elsewhere. The problem is that many of us jump in and are going full speed because of this nice weather. During my drive at lunch I saw so many people out picking up litter, twigs and branches on their lawns.

If you have been sedentary over the winter, and even if not, it is critical for you to warm up your spine and muscles of the body. If it were called a sport, you would think nothing of it.

Injuries often occur when the muscles do not have the proper blood flow and are not warmed up. Think of yourself like an athlete in the home. Now warming up is more than a double double. At Oakville Chiropractic we encourage you to take steps to protect yourself.

  1. Take time to rotate your shoulders in circles .
  2. For your lower body you can imagine you are rotating a hula hoop. Do this for a few rotations in each direction.
  3. Pull your knee up to your chest and then repeat on the other side.
  4. Stretch your neck to the left, then right and side to side.

Just get into the habit of warming up anytime you are doing any work not in your normal routines. Your spine and body with thank you. If you would like more detailed exercises do not hesitate to contact us at info@oakvillechiropractic.com and we will be happy to send you more information.
