Nestled between the north shores of Lake Ontario and the beautiful Niagara Escarpment is the booming city of Burlington Ontario. Once known as Burlington Bay, after Bridlington (of Yorkshire, England), this now busy suburban city was once deeded to Captain Joseph Brant, whom now the Hospital is named after. The area became known for its prosperous farming (notably orchards and nurseries), lumber trade, and shipping for a short while in its small ports. The production of energy and electricity from the nearby Niagara Falls encouraged increased settlers after the Second World War, and by the early 70’s the area was incorporated as a city. The city’s location being close to Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara, and even the US border crossing in Buffalo, made Burlington a desirable place to reside with every modern convenience of the city nearby, in a sound location to raise a family.
Visitors can enjoy the outdoor space at Spencer Smith Park, home to the Sound of Music and Rib Festivals, along with the many shops, restaurants and pubs found in the downtown core. Mapleview Mall and Burlington Mall offer most national chains and a collection of salons and eateries. Outdoorsmen and women can enjoy the hiking Bruce trail or exploring the Royal Botanical Gardens. You can also check out Burlington’s Teen Tour Band who has been thriving since 1947, the Burlington Concert Band playing since 1908, or catch a performance at Drury Lane or Theatre Burlington.
