Work Hardening "Work Simulations"

Work hardening is a progression towards a more intense functional program for individuals who have completed physical and functional conditioning but remain functionally limited in some essential pre-injury responsibilities. This is often referred to as "Work Simulation".

Patient programs are monitored by a certified Athletic Therapist or Kinesiologist
Participation in more intense work simulation tasks require that the patient is medically stable, soft tissue dysfunctions have been addressed, has completed the psycho educational modules and range of motion meets critical job requirements.
Involves individualized intervention where the essential physical demands of the job/lifestyle are simulated in a controlled environment. Consistency of effort, compliance, participation and performance are closely monitored.
Patients participate in psycho vocational education modules to address potential return to work barriers.
A functional ability evaluation (FAE) may be required as part of the existing strategy.
The goal is to return the individual to pre-injury functioning on a full time or graduated basis

WORK HARDENING
Work Hardening may be a full day program where the individual performs his/her job, at the work-site or in the clinic setting, in preparation for a return to 100 percent productivity on the job where graduated hours and/or modified duties are not available.
