I would like you to indulge me for just a moment and close your eyes and consider the following scenario….thank you ladies and gentleman for choosing our carrier this is your captain speaking….we will be departing shortly and the likely hood of us reaching our destination without any incident is at 28% today…..   Now I ask you to switch scenes to the evening news and each and every day three jumbo jets crash killing everyone on board….this tragedy happens every day of the year for a body count in US alone of 420,000 deaths….How confident would you be with this airline??? Would you let your family board??   What I am talking about is the third leading cause of death in North America trailing only heart disease and cancer ….   What is this killer?? It is a condition is the Medical field referred to as ADR’s or adverse drug reactions….we are not referring to illicit drugs but prescription medications!!  Our society has a concept that there is a pill for every ill…this propaganda is further perpetuated by TV advertising….you must of heard them….but listen to the side effects…the hastened blurbs   Studies in Canada show that 25% of patients seeking medical treatment end up suffering from another illness brought on by the medial or drug errors…Can you imagine three million Canadian children taking antidepressants such as prozac…prozac is a serotonin uptake inhibitior….in the sixties they called this chemical family LSD How can a two year old be depressed I ask you??   The Dean of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona stated that in 1994 75 billion was spent in north America on drugs….he also stated that 76 million were the costs to address the ADR’s of those drugs…   Drugs are poisons that you put into your body to change the way your body works…that what they do. There are situations where drugs are life savers and they do help people through some very difficult times…   It is the overuse and over prescribing of these drugs that is criminal. You need to understand that there is a potential death reaction(about 8 K/yr) even with over the counter drugs like Tylenol….in conclusion you must understand that there is a serious risk/reward ratio with any drugs…. it is up to you to find out the facts so you can make informed decisions about your health care choices and ultimately empower you so that you don’t become a victim of Air Pharma.
