This past weekend we had our Family reunion. It starts with a golf tournament and then festivities ending in a music night where there is no shortage of players.

The thing that startled me was the youngsters that you haven’t seen in the past year. I guess you just forget sometimes what changes can happen to growing people in the short course on a year. There were a couple that you had to do a couple of double takes and the holy freeholy.

Wow… that is a bold statement but if you are willing to commit 30 days you can make a palpable difference in your life.

Many times I speak with patients who have been listless, lethargic and just plain lack that spark of life that makes things enjoyable. They may be on several drugs to try and make their life normal but often this leads you to go further down the rabbit hole.

O Canada…

Hacanada_flag_sunsetppy Birthday all of you Canadians! Hey I hope you all have a great Canada Day with family and friends…

Remember to listen to that little voice in the back of your head before you do the cannonball off the cliff or garage roof. All of the children are in an envious position today…schools out for summer…yahoo. When I was a lad the day school finished we packed up and headed to the cottage for the summer and I still retain a lot of fond memories. Enjoy your summers off because unless you are in the teaching profession, after you are about 16 years old there are no summers off.

OK so you probably know that over the past few months we have designed, built and moved into our new offices.  There is still a pile of detail stuff to take care of and I find myself saying more often than not…I’ll take care of that later!

So over the years I have had my hand in either building directly or consulted for new doctors more than 40 times…40 new offices that all turned out pretty nice. That being said my wife Conny who is a designer has a keen eye and had a tremendous input into building our new premises. Naturally if it were totally up to Conny our ceramic tiles would have been travertine marble etc. You get the picture.

Anyway over the course of the construction the crew would come up with a solution and run it by me and I would agree and say ya sure that’ll work. However when Conny would see something that we were planning or doing she would put a stop to it in a way that a wife of 30 years has the ability to do…

Well it has been over two weeks since we moved into our new premises and it seems as if my Things To Do List is actually getting longer…Chaos – disorder, bedlam, pandemonium, commotion, disarray, turmoil … oh well all of these things are present with a move and the settling in period as we search for order.Everyday we inch closer to the finished project but there always seems to be and additional task or reason to keep tweaking the model.

Usually I prefer to hear that comment in a sporting event but this May past long weekend and the week following we moved our office location of 11 years to our new premises.

Well the last time I moved a home was 1988 so it gives you time to forget the challenges of a move. Our office was 5000 sq feet and I suspect a 1000 sq ft of that needed to be pitched. Today we found a box with a dozen or more pin style printer cords. Hmmm…

Reach your goal weight, and Restore health…..

Weight loss is not as easy as reducing calories and exercising more, Read below to understand the many reasons why you may be having difficulty losing weight:

HYPOTHYROID: the thyroid is the master gland that controls weight loss and gain. If you have an underactive thyroid, weight loss will be near to impossible. Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include: depression, dry skin, dry hair, cold sensitivity, forgetfulness and depression.

POOR DIGESTION: A decrease in enzymes, low stomach acid, and decreased bile which are needed for fat breakdown and metabolism. Other symptoms of poor digestion include: gas, bloating, and heartburn…. does this sound familiar?

RAISED CORTISOL & ADRENAL FATIGUE: this will lower your body’s ability to breakdown fat and instead increase fat storage. Signs that your adrenal glands (your main energy center) are stressed include trouble getting up in the morning, feeling run down, the need for coffee, pop, salty or sweet snacks to keep you going.  Its never too late to reverse this downward cycle of adrenal exhaustion.

BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS: individuals with diabetes, including hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms of hypoglycemia include feeling weak, dizzy, tired, drowsy, and confused. Both hypoglycemia and type 2 diabetes can be drastically improved through proper lifestyle and diet modifications.

LIVER TOXICITY: can impair fat burning and increase fat storage, and problems with glucose absorption. Symptoms such as abdominal pain, and swelling, chronic itchy skin, dark urine color, pale stool colour, joint pain, chronic fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, and bloody tar coloured stool all indicate your liver is full of toxins.

GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT: decreased and abnormal bowel flora, increased candida and bacteria, GI infections, leaky gut syndrome, and food allergy sensitivities can all cause a decrease in weight loss

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that my friend, colleague, and former partner, Dr Arnold Roper, passed away this morning.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family Wendy, Jeannie and his three children.

I first met Arnold or Arnie as he was called back in 1979 during my internship at a Satellite Clinic at Parliament and Gerrard.  He had been in practice for 9 years and came to share with the senior interns what is was like in the trenches so to speak.

Friday Friday!!!!

Well it’s the first Friday of the Holiday Season and I figure that was grounds enough to have some fun!

As many of you know I have quite a love affair with famous quotes, word origins and quirky everyday expressions. It all started with my father, who use to iterate phrases and proverbs that would not only make you learn and laugh, but also with some would make you contemplate what was even being relayed.
